Thanks for visiting 5e Jump Calculator, a tiny online tool created to fix a common D&D 5e table slowdown: jumping.
If you’ve ever halted the action to look up the exact jumping rules, argued over whether a running start is enough, or tried to remember how Strength and movement interact, this tool was built with you in mind.
So, What Does This Site Do?
5e Jump Calculator is a free web tool that turns the official 5th Edition jumping rules into instant numbers.
You enter a few details about your character—including Strength, height, and situational modifiers—and the calculator spits out your:
Long jump distance
Maximum high jump
Maximum reach during a jump
Other useful jump-related numbers based on the official rules
No back-of-the-napkin math, no rules confusion—just straightforward outputs you can rely on.
Why I Built This Tool
This site was the result of real table frustration.
As a Dungeon Master and player, I kept noticing the same situation:
A character wants to do something cool and cinematic with a jump, the entire table stalls while we check the rules.
The 5e rules for jumping aren’t especially complicated, but they are easy to forget. I found myself reaching for the PHB over and over again, so I took the obvious next step: I wrote a little web app.
5e Jump Calculator started as a personal helper, and then I cleaned it up and put it online in case other tables were just as tired of flipping pages mid-session.
Under the Hood (Without the Jargon)
This tool implements the official Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition jumping rules as laid out in the core rules. In simple terms, it:
Uses your Strength score to determine base jump distances
Accounts for running vs standing jumps
Factors in your height and reach where appropriate
the rules as written, without adding homebrew assumptions
You don’t need to know the exact formula. The calculator takes care of it and shows you the result that matters at the table.
How to Use It at Your Table
5e Jump Calculator is meant to be:
Fast enough to use mid-session
Accessible for beginners
Accurate enough for rules lawyers
You can use it to:
Check whether a character can clear an obstacle before they commit
Design encounters with realistic jumps in mind
Keep cinematic moments moving without arguing over distances
Just enter the stats and read the output. It’s meant to fade into the background, not slow you down with options.
Where This Might Go
Right now, 5e Jump Calculator is deliberately simple: it solves the jump problem and stops there.
In the future, I may:
Expand into other movement calculators
Cover more special abilities and conditions
Polish the interface and add small quality-of-life features
If you spot something off, or if you have a suggestion, feel free to reach out. This site is for DMs and players like you, and your input directly guides future changes.
Thanks for using 5e Jump Calculator. Here’s hoping it keeps your sessions moving and your jumps heroic.
